THOMAS PYNCHON, Gravity's Rainbow (Jonathan Cape, London 1973)

The hilarious story of Slothrop who is hijacked into the Allies' attempts to destroy the V2 rocket launching sites at Peenemünde after it is discovered that wherever he has an erection in London a V2 rocket lands shortly afterwards. A wonderful, rambling story, top of my list for rereading.
