MILAN KNIZAK, Liebliches Trauma (n.p., 1994?)
German catalogue of new paintings and objects by former Fluxus and performance artist Milan Knizak. Less provocative than his earlier work, but still politically engaged. I first visited Knizak in Prague in 1989, just before the revolution that brought the fall of Communism, and he was still a persona non grata in the official art world, forbidden to teach or to have a studio in Prague. A few years later I visited him again; like his friend Havel, he had been promoted from dissident to pillar of the establishment, and was now Rector of the State Art Academy, where he occupied a large and comfortable office hung with his own provocative paintings.
